We have a large freezer in our basement.
It’s where the good meats go to die from freezer burn.
Don’t worry, we still chiseled the ice off and eat it.
Don’t judge us. Meat is expensive!
I always cringe when I pull out a bag of meat and see those blasted ice crystals.
I find that freezer burn alters the flavour and makes it dry when you cook it.
That’s not a scientific hypothesis.
Dang it kids.
I’m a nurse, not a person who studies freezer burn.
Have you ever tried to feed your toddler dry chewy meat?
Our son is still chewing on a piece of meat from like 5 days ago.
We told him that he couldn’t leave the table until he finished it.
Kidding.
We let him off the hook 3 days ago.
Kidding.
Oh and don’t get me started on the ice cube vegetables in a bag.
*Shudder*
If any of the above relates to you, then you should check out the FoodSaver.
From their website:
The FoodSaver® Vacuum Sealing System keeps food fresh up to 5x longer* than ordinary storage methods like zipper bags, foil, plastic wrap and containers.
Air is the enemy of freshness and primary cause of freezer burn and dehydration in foods stored in the freezer, refrigerator and pantry. Ordinary storage methods trap air inside, causing food to lose flavour and nutrition over time. FoodSaver®Vacuum Sealing System remove and lock out air and moisture using specially-designed bags and canisters to prevent freezer burn.
The Food Saver® Sealing System saves space in your freezer because the vacuum packs can be easily stored by stacking one pack on top of the other. And I love how organized my freezer looked. It was easier to find the packages I was looking for without having to dive into the bottom of my freezer.
Did you know that it you can also use the The Food Saver® Sealing System for other foods like vegetables? Well it does. I was really impressed with this feature because we usually buy frozen vegetables. If you do to, you know that those vegetables form into a giant ice cube of sorts and it is difficult to get out the right portion of vegetables that you need.
Check out another great way you can use the The Food Saver® Sealing System.

The Food Saver® Sealing System was very easy to operate.
We were really surprised at how much air was vacuumed out of the package. It definitely beats having to squeeze the air out of a zippered freezer bag.
We like that the design is sleek and is aesthetically pleasing. If you don’t want on the counter, it stores easily.
We definitely love this product and would reccomend this to family and friends…
And of course to you, my wonderful readers.

*I recieved a Food Saver Vacuum Sealer in exchange for this reveiw. All opinions are my own.

I’ve wondered if it really works! Because I have a similar problem as you – sometimes things get in there and they overstay their welcome a bit.

Interesting. I’ve seen ads for this item on tv, but reading a personal testimony is more meaningful!

I won’t lie. I’ve always wanted one of those things. Because, well, we waste shit. And it’s sad. But we do eat it ice crystals and all. But just don’t tell J because he gets weird about stuff expiring. Even when it’s not.

You know, these things have been around forever, so I have to believe they actually work to survive in the marketplace. And they are a bit more modern looking than the ones of my childhood!

Dude, I so have one and rarely use it. Tsk on me. I got it the year that Oprah sang praises about it and the hubs decided it was a rockin’ Chanukah gift. *snort*

I tend to just throw the “aged” meat in the crock pot and hope for the best!!
[Reply]
I swear it’s just about impossible to stop that from happening. Or it was…until this gizmo.

Lucky! I’ve always wanted one of these.
