I would like to preface this by saying that I love my Mom.
When I was little, my Mom rocked in the kitchen.
No fancy spices.
No extravagant sauces.
She served food straight up with a huge dollop of ketchup and butter.
All 5 of us kids were very picky eaters and my Mom got tired of making 20 different variations of a pot roast.
She gave in and devoted her taste buds to her children’s wishes.
See, she’s awesome.
I was fine living in my bland world up until I started college.
Our nursing class was made up of a very diverse population. I loved that because I learned so much about other cultures…
…and their food.
I remember Charmaine laughing at me with my naked chicken.
“Girl, you need to Jamaican that up.”
Soon the class knew that I was picky and instead of hanging out at a library to study, we’d do it over dinner.
They brought my taste buds to life and made my stomach turn to steel. I ate everything.
I even tried snail.
Snail.
But there was one thing that I absolutely refused to put in my mouth.
Blue cheese.
Mold.
I just couldn’t bring myself to it.
Then one day I was asked to take part in a review of Castello Cheese.
They are known for their blue cheese.
Blue cheese.
Castello Cheese actually sells more than just blue cheese. They have a varitey of cheeses to satisfy any palate such as Herrgård® and Danish aged Havarti. Our whole family is in love with their Havarti cheese.
We went to the grocery shore to peruse the cheese section. My stomach gravitated to the Havarti, but the adrenaline in me said, “Do it!”
So I bought it.
Now I wouldn’t try just any blue cheese. If I was going to try it, it would have been Castello Cheese. Hands down.
I played it safe and bought their crumbled blue cheese.
*Please keep in mind that this is the very first time that I’ve tried a blue cheese.
When I opened the container, the smell was very strong. I had second doubts of trying it.
I made a beautiful salad and sprinkled a small amount of the cheese on top.
And you know what?
It was good.
Really good.
I forgot about the whole ” it’s mold” thing and treated my taste buds to a new experience.
If you’ve had blue cheese before or if this is your first try, I’d highly recommend giving Castello Cheese a try.
It’s glorious.

Yummy!
When I was a kid I used to think Blue cheese tasted like the smell of crayons.Thank goodness my taste buds have grown up
Now I eat it all the time on salads with berries or pears. You don’t know what you’ve been missing there my friend!

I’ve always been too leery to try blue cheese also, but if you did….maybe I should too!

I love all cheese, I think. Even blue. YUM. But feta is my favorite right now.

I normally like blue cheese, mostly in dressing. But now you just made me rethink that. I’m allergic to mold, and therefore don’t eat mushrooms. And now, ew. I’m glad you enjoyed it, though. :>

Beh oui! Mais bien sûr que c’est bon. Ca t’a pris autant de temps avant d’essayer?
Sorry. I slip into French when you start talking cheese. It’s like turret syndrome.
