All I had to do was moan “Mommy” and there she was at my bedside with her arsenal of tools. She’d take my temperature first by the inside of her wrist, and then tsk, tsk as she stuck the thermometer under my tongue. I’m sure she didn’t need to see the reading to know that I was on fire. My thin brown hair had stuck to the sides of my sweaty chubby red cheeks and my nightgown was soaked right on through.
She’d start by stripping down the thick blankets, helping me into a new set of thinner PJ’s and then plastered a thick mentanol rub on my chest. “It opens your airways,” she said. “It tickles my nose hairs,” I said.
Maybe some fever reducers if my temperature was too warm and always a cold damp cloth on my head.
Then she’d lug in the big massive yellowing box that pumped steam into the air. She put it right in the center of the room and filled it with water then turned it on. It was to make the air better for me to breathe.
We had that beast for all five of us kids and she used it mostly in the winter months when the air was dry and our noses needed that extra bit of help.
When I was pregnant with my son, my mom reminded me that having a humidifier is one of the best things you’ll have.
And it is – especially since our son has major nosebleeds and runs the germ gamut by being in school!
In the winter, our homes get really dry. In fact, did you know that the humidity may drop as low as 10-20%! This can cause our mucous membranes to dry out – such as the lining of the nose and throat, and can even cause respiratory problems.
But by simply putting a humidifier in the home, you can help increase the humidity providing comfort from the dry air.
And let me tell you, you’ll notice a difference right away.
We have been using the Oskar Stadler Form Humidifier for a week now and it so happens to be right in the middle of our 8 year old’s cold virus.
I will tell you that this is a powerful (powerfully quiet) and very sleek little box. It actually doesn’t even look like it’s an appliance.
The Stadler Form Oskar Humidifier is extremely lightweight which is perfect for me (I have a really bad back). It says that it’s 6.9 pound but I feel like it’s a lot less (without water added). I can easily transfer this from room to room if I wanted to.
The Stadler Form Oskar optimally humidifies the air with low energy consumption! The economical evaporator provides exact humidification thanks to the hygrostat. Oskar automatically switches off when the tank is empty.
The product came in two pieces – top and bottom. Just slide the two together. Very simple.
This is the bottom half – here you place the water filter which I think is a fantastic feature. I don’t remember my son’s old humidifier coming with one and we used to get a white film on all of his things in his room.
There is another separate part for fragrance! Yes! Fragrance. If you want to add a little aroma to your humidifier you can! I absolutely love that!
If you can see in the picture, there is a part where you write when you inserted the filters and reminds you to replace the filter.
Once the two pieces were put together, I found a spot, plugged it in, filled the tank with water up to the max line, and turned it on to desired air humidity using the hygrostat button.
I was also able to adjust the LED lighting on the box.
The Stadler Form Oskar Humidifier is surprisingly quiet and there are no vapors whatsoever coming from the machine. We are pleasantly surprised with how well this works. We placed this in my son’s room for the duration of his cold virus and it did seem to help his dry cough and the overall air in the room. It now sits in our living room where the air gets dry with the hot winter sun and constant furnace running. We notice a difference.
I have not tried putting fragrance in the machine yet but I would love to try to. I am waiting until my son’s virus passes completely.
