Is The Winter Season Causing Dry Air In Your Home? Try Oskar!

All I had to do was moan “Mommy” and there she was at my bedside with her arsenal of tools. She’d take my temperature first by the inside of her wrist, and then tsk, tsk as she stuck the thermometer under my tongue. I’m sure she didn’t need to see the reading to know that I was on fire. My thin brown hair had stuck to the sides of my sweaty chubby red cheeks and my nightgown was soaked right on through.

She’d start by stripping down the thick blankets, helping me into a new set of thinner PJ’s and then plastered a thick mentanol rub on my chest. “It opens your airways,” she said. “It tickles my nose hairs,” I said.

Maybe some fever reducers if my temperature was too warm and always a cold damp cloth on my head.

Then she’d lug in the big massive yellowing box that pumped steam into the air. She put it right in the center of the room and filled it with water then turned it on. It was to make the air better for me to breathe.

We had that beast for all five of us kids and she used it mostly in the winter months when the air was dry and our noses needed that extra bit of help.

When I was pregnant with my son, my mom reminded me that having a humidifier is one of the best things you’ll have.

And it is – especially since our son has major nosebleeds and runs the germ gamut by being in school!

In the winter, our homes get really dry. In fact, did you know that the humidity may drop as low as 10-20%! This can cause our mucous membranes to dry out – such as the lining of the nose and throat, and can even cause respiratory problems.

But by simply putting a humidifier in the home, you can help increase the humidity providing comfort from the dry air.

And let me tell you, you’ll notice a difference right away.

We have been using the Oskar Stadler Form Humidifier for a week now and it so happens to be right in the middle of our 8 year old’s cold virus.

I will tell you that this is a powerful (powerfully quiet) and very sleek little box. It actually doesn’t even look like it’s an appliance.

The Stadler Form Oskar Humidifier is extremely lightweight which is perfect for me (I have a really bad back). It says that it’s 6.9 pound but I feel like it’s a lot less (without water added).  I can easily transfer this from room to room if I wanted to.

The Stadler Form Oskar optimally humidifies the air with low energy consumption! The economical evaporator provides exact humidification thanks to the hygrostat.  Oskar automatically switches off when the tank is empty.

The product came in two pieces – top and bottom. Just slide the two together. Very simple.

This is the bottom half – here you place the water filter which I think is a fantastic feature. I don’t remember my son’s old humidifier coming with one and we used to get a white film on all of his things in his room.

There is another separate part for fragrance! Yes! Fragrance. If you want to add a little aroma to your humidifier you can! I absolutely love that!

If you can see in the picture, there is a part where you write when you inserted the filters and reminds you to replace the filter.

Once the two pieces were put together, I found a spot, plugged it in, filled the tank with water up to the max line, and turned it on to desired air humidity using the hygrostat button.

I was also able to adjust the LED lighting on the box.

The glare from the camera makes it look like there’s another set of lights on the other side of the box. There’s really only one set of lights on the right.

The Stadler Form Oskar Humidifier is surprisingly quiet and there are no vapors whatsoever coming from the machine. We are pleasantly surprised with how well this works. We placed this in my son’s room for the duration of his cold virus and it did seem to help his dry cough and the overall air in the room. It now sits in our living room where the air gets dry with the hot winter sun and constant furnace running. We notice a difference.

I have not tried putting fragrance in the machine yet but I would love to try to. I am waiting until my son’s virus passes completely.

Disclaimer: I received a Stadler Form Oskar Humidifier for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.

  1. So neat! I once bought a humidifier in the shape of a pig (true story) just because I thought it was really cute, but then I never used it. I actually have been thinking about getting one, because I can almost taste the dry air this time of year and I swear that the heat in our apartment is doing something to my sinuses. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing–this looks like a pretty neat, svelte, get-rid-of-household-germies machine! Aww, poor Chunk–hope this is helping him!

Only you would buy one in the shape of a pig! Well, actually I do recall seeing some in the shape of frogs and i think that we put that on our registry when Chunky was a baby. HAHAH!! Yes, the dry air is terrible in our home. Chunky gets nosebleeds all the time. We had a humidifier but it left a white residue on everything. This one is really great. It’s quiet. you don’t see a vapor coming out and no residue and you get to add a fragrance! And yes, it did help break up that gunk in his lungs. It’s a pretty powerful little box!

  2. A humidifier is so important during the winter months. I like that this one is quiet and not too big. I also like that it has a place to add fragrance.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

The fragrance part is a great feature! I didn’t get the chance to use it though prior to the review but I’m looking forward to trying it out. They have other sizes too and other colours available in the EcoBrandsNow store to suit your home. It’s a great humidifier!

  3. Humidifiers are really important during the winter months. Don’t want your skin plus hard on wood furniture and can really damage it. This one doesn’t seem to take up to much space and seems is to fill and use.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

YES and the leather furniture too. They also make other sizes and colours for your home and I love that it fits right in with your decor.

  4. I think humidifiers are something that each household should have. In the winter time it is definitely dry. My skin is always cracking and bleeding humidifiers will definitely help keep the air from being so dry. I should definitely check into this one.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

oh my skin gets like that too in the winter. It’s horrible. My son also gets horrendous nosebleeds. We used to have a humidifier but we stopped using it because it left a terrible residue on all of our things. And it was loud! Turns out it was because there was no filter in it like this one has. This one also is really quiet!

  5. The air is sooo dry in my home, I’ve been needing to get a humidifier for awhile but keep putting it off. I love how this one looks so sleek you can’t really even tell it’s a humidfier!

    • Kimberly Kimberly

Yes that is one of the features that I love. It fits right in with the decor. It comes in other colours too to fit your home decor – white, green, silver I believe. And it comes in other sizes. Definitely check out EcoBrandsNow if you’re interested!

  6. Oh my gosh, it gets so dry here during the winter! We’ve gone through humidifiers like nuts over the years, I’ll have to look into this one!

    • Kimberly Kimberly

I really like this one. The one we had left a residue on all of our belongings and was loud. This one is surprisingly quiet. I also love that it fits in like it’s part of the decor! You can also get it in other sizes at the EcoBrandsNow store!

  7. Pam Pam

A good humidifier is so important during cold and flu season. This one sounds great and I like that you can add fragrance,

    • Kimberly Kimberly

YES! The fragrance part is another feature that I like! I didn’t get the chance to use it before the review. My son fell ill so I didn’t want to put that in. But it did help with his congestion that’s for sure!

  8. love that it looks chic and that it helps reduce the dry air within the house… winter dry air is NO joke! I’ll have to check this out : )

    • Kimberly Kimberly

I love that about it too! It doesn’t look like it’s an appliance – like it’s part of the decor. I also love that it’s quiet!

  9. My Teen Guide My Teen Guide

This is what I need! I’m pretty sure that my house will not causing dry air anymore. I’m going to try it.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

Oh that is wonderful! This is such a great addition to our home. I love that we can control it and it’s really quiet too. My son had one when he was little and it left a lot of residue on everything but this one doesn’t even give off a vapor. And I like that it looks like it’s a part of our house.

  10. Humidifiers are essential items in our house. My husband and eldest son cannot tolerate a cold, dry room and I always have to make sure the humidifier is on during those kind of days. I will give this Oskar humidifier a thorough look. We may be needing a new one and this looks like it is worth the purchase.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

It’s tiny but it is a powerful box! They do have a bigger sized one in their store. EcoBrandsNow carries a wide variety of them but this one does keep our mid-sized living room and our basement well humidified. I really like the idea of having a compartment to add fragrance. I’ve never heard of that before. I love essential oils. I didn’t get the chance to use it though before the review.

  11. Ali Ali

It gets really dry in Indiana in the winter. This sounds like it’s just the thing my family needs. The fragrance would be nice too 🙂

    • Kimberly Kimberly

I haven’t tried the fragrance portion yet but I am a huge fan of essential oils. We wanted to wait until my son’s cold passed before we tried it! The humidifier works really well in our home. I can’t imagine how dry it gets in Indiana!

  12. I have to say one problem we do not have in our home is dryness. You offer great tips.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

That’s a good thing! We have an older home and big windows and well Canada is cold so the furnace is always a go go go, so that might be a reason why it’s so dry? I have no idea LoL!! But this little box does work wonders!

  13. I love how it looks. It is really sleek. I could use a good humidifier in my home. There’s a lot of dry air in my house in the winter.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

It is really sleek. My dad thought we bought the world’s smallest coffee table. LoL! It comes in other colours too and sizes. This one went best with our colours in our house.

  14. We struggle with dry air in our new house so we are definitely looking for a great resource like Oskar. I am so looking forward to Spring and being able to get some fresh air into the house.

  15. Angelic Sinova Angelic Sinova

The Oskar Stadler Form Humidifier sounds awesome! I’ll definitely have to give it a try since it seems like this winter weather isn’t going away anytime soon.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

It is not leaving let me tell you! We just got hit with another snow storm! ugh! But this humidifier is a wonderful thing to have. It’s small but it is mighty!

  16. This is probably what I need at home. MY nose is starting to dry up and it is causing it to bleed, it hurts.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

Chubskulit, my son’s nose does that too! All the time! His doctor was going to cauterize the inside of his one nostril because it wouldn’t stop bleeding! I’m hoping that adding this will make it better. So far, it’s been good. It does work really well for our home!

  17. I used a small humidifier last winter, and it made such a difference!

    • Kimberly Kimberly

It is amazing for plugged up noses! I think it’ll help my husband with his seasonal allergies coming up! He gets horrendous reactions to the grass in the spring.

  18. rika rika

Thanks for sharing this review.. I am planning to purchase a humidifier for Spring and Summer. My kids and I suffer from seasonal allergy.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

This would be a wonderful investment! They come in various sizes and colours too. Seasonal allergies are terrible. My husband has them too. They’re not fun.

  19. It’s really important to have a humidifier at home especially during Winter and Spring. This looks like a reliable one! I like the sleek and modern design!

    • Kimberly Kimberly

That’s what I love about this one – how sleek and modern it is. It works so well too! Very powerful for its size. And it’s quiet!
