I’ll Meet You On The Floor

If the weight of Wednesday feels too much for you my dear, I will always meet you on the floor.

Please don’t mind the mess.

We are too busy resting, comforting, listening, consoling, allowing ourselves to get angry, to cry, to laugh even, that we don’t bother to notice anything else.

We will inhale Popsicles, watch the August clouds drift over our heads, fiercely love in silence, and when we’re ready, we start to rebuild.

There will be lots of trying and failing but here, we recognize the hard work in trying.

You’ll  find that strength you’ve been missing, that courage, that bravery, that hope.

I’ll tell you a little secret — it’s been there all along. You just dropped it here.

It’s OK. We all have.

If there’s ever a Wednesday or a day that’s too heavy for you my dear

I will always meet you on the floor.

That’s my garage door. He’s a travel hockey player and the reason why I cannot have nice things…but I wouldn’t change that for the world.

Prompt:  Write a blog post in exactly 8 lines.

  1. Love this, sometimes we do fall on the floor and need to stay there a minute. Then dust ourselves off and keep on going. <3

Just bring me snacks girl…I’ll be alright xoxox

    • Kimberly Kimberly

Thank you so much Kate. I actually don’t mind the garage door. It adds character.

  2. Very sweet. I specially like the thing about “inhaling Popsicles.” Brain freeze is great when things aren’t going really well.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

You know what? Brain freeze is kind of good when things aren’t. I really like that 😉

  3. If there’s a bottle of whiskey on that floor, I’m there.

    • Kimberly Kimberly

Girl I got what you need on the floor….wine, beer, whiskey…

  4. Ahhh, this is beautiful, Kim. Tuesdays seem to have me hitting the floor more often. Lack of motivation or maybe it’s that old Moody Blues song I can’t get out of my head. Wednesday…I see the light. I’m happy to know you’ll be there, too with Chunky. ‘He’s the reason I cannot have nice things…” LOL.

Oh also Tuesday. It can be a whatever day. But it was Wednesday. Dog tracked poop in the house before my son’s appointment.
I tried to get on my doctor’s sick call list because I didn’t have a sitter for Wednesday afternoon…It was my very last appointment until September so it was important that I go….but then I found a sitter…and the guy called in sick anyways….right as I was standing in line at the cashier register trying to return on online purchase while my son was panicking about the store being too crowded.
Then my dog peed in the house when we got home.
      What.Ever. Wednesday.
But we survived it. By the grace of popsicles baby and deep breathes!

      • OMG, one thing piled on top of another!

    • Kimberly Kimberly

      Thank you!

  5. I love this piece not only for the beauty of its poetic language but also for its attitude and insight. The line about trying and failing is one of the most important lessons for us to learn.

  6. This is beautiful, my seeet friend. Sometimes I read your writing and think holy ish, she just GETS it in a way not many do. I’d love to meet you on the floor. I’ll bring snacks and Buster. He loves snuggles and your spot in front of the garage door looks comfy 🙂

    Happy weekend, Kim! Xoxo

  7. Emily Emily

  8. This encompasses motherhood so beautifully! And life too! I love the floor; thanks for reminding me that I need to spend more time there.

  9. kat kat

I’m right there with you. Whatever it takes for those babies!
