Holiday Travel Made Easier With Netflix Downloads | #StreamTeam

He was up at least ten times throughout the night. I could hear him running to the kitchen to check the time and then back to his bedroom where he threw himself on his mattress with a disappointed thud. He wrestled with his thick covers and I could hear his stuffed animals getting tossed onto the hardwood floor. Then the one step, two step, three, four fisixseveneininerun-run-run-run to our bed to shake us wider awake than what we already were.

“Mom and dad! We can’t be late for the hockey tournament!”

“Buddy, it’s TWO in the morning. We don’t leave until EIGHT.”

“Oh. Ok. I just want to make sure that we aren’t late.”

And with a huff, he slid off the side of our bed, and pounded his feet loudly down the hall and back to his room.

My husband groaned but I couldn’t help but laugh.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been as passionate about something like he is as passionate about hockey — and I LOVE THAT. I love that he has found something that makes his heart happy and if it makes him happy, you better believe we will drive over 4 hours on a snowy Friday morning to get him to a hockey tournament.

Yes we will.

We drove through snow squalls actually.

While Shawn and I were trying to calmly scream at each other “Is that a truck or just a brick wall of snow?”

He was in the back seat, toasty, and with no cares in the world as Netflix lulled him right to sleep.

He was watching downloaded “Elf”

Yes, downloaded right from Netflix! If you didn’t know that you could do this…this is going to be a HUGE game changer for you over the holiday season with all of the traveling that you might be doing. When Shawn traveled to Japan, he downloaded entire series and watched it on the 13 hour plane ride. Such a life saver.

When Netflix is on the go with you, everyone stays content, engaged and, most importantly, NOT bored.

Us parents can all relate to this parody!

Even though our little guy fell asleep during Elf – I mean he was up all throughout the night with the anxiety bug and feeling excited – he went on to power through the first game and was the player of the game!

We were incredibly proud of him.

Always are.

After the tournament that kicked our cans in the exhaustion department, we have been doing lots of vegging and Netflixing. So I want to share with you some of our finds:

I am so excited that Lady Dynamite is back for Season 2. If you have not watched this show, please, give it a go. It is absolutely hilarious and Maria Bamford is stellar.

Jim & Andy:  The Great Beyond – I adore Jim Carrey and Andy Kauffman was a brilliant comedian. This documentary was not what I expected. It delves into the minds of both Jim and Andy. I was left speechless. I loved this.

The Night Before – I watched this late last night on accident. I. Laughed. So. HARD. It is one of those goofy comedies that I needed to pick me up. Honestly, if you need a good belly laugh, this is it.

Of course we are still making our way through Shameless — no spoilers!!!

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Netflix Canada #StreamTeam and get special perks. As always, all opinions are my own.

  1. I love your son’s enthusiasm for the sport, too, and your dedication to take him to each game and cheer him on <3 You guys are just the best.

Also I really need to see that holiday movie with my future hubby (don't tell Bryan) Seth Rogan. Actually, he already knows and has given me a hall pass should that ever happen, ha! I haven't heard of Lady Dynamite and I'd love to see the Jim Carey documentary. He's an interesting bird, eh?

XOXO and hope all is well with you, bunny!

  2. I am so glad to know about the Netflix download feature, we’ll be doing a road trip to Missouri this summer and it’s a 10-12 hour drive. I will need to entertain the kid somehow! The last time we actually drove he was six months old and still sleeping a lot.

We stumbled onto The Night Before recently too and I laughed a lot. It was a fun movie!

I love your kiddo’s enthusiasm for hockey. It just makes me smile so hard.

  3. So cool, we love using Netflix when we travel. There are so many great things to watch. We aren’t traveling for the holidays, but we will be over the summer.

  4. My daughter has netflix download in their car and it is a life saver for the kids. Especially on those long drives.

  5. I need to download some things for my other half when we go away this week, he never knows what to do in the car and giving him something to watch is a great idea!

  6. It’s amazing how many different shows/movies there are available to download. Life is so much more convenient with media streaming services like Netflix.

  7. It would have been so nice to have had Netflix around when my children were younger. Traveling would have been so much easier. They are in their 20’s now, and while I don’t need to keep them preoccupied, they still love their Netflix streaming app. 🙂

  8. I am watching some of everything this season. Netflix is better than I expected. I may need to subscribe.

  9. Pam Pam

We love Netflix downloads. It makes traveling with my granddaughter so much easier on all of us.

  10. adriana adriana

This is great for a long trip! I bet it’s so helpful with the kids too – keeps them occupied when you need it the most haha! Great idea!

  11. I did not know you could download. That is perfect for traveling. Also, Elf is awesome 🙂

  12. Claudia Krusch Claudia Krusch

We love the download for later option on Netflix. Is has been really handy for long car rides. My friend moved and had to wait a few weeks for internet so she came over every day and downloaded a few episodes of her favorite show to watch later.

  13. Great recommendations. I absolutely love having Netflix for travel and it super nice that you can download some of the movies for when you’re going to be without internet.

  14. We started Ozark a few nights ago. Love me some Jason Bateman. Way to go braving the snow for the hockey tournament. That’s dedication and car napping is the best. Wish I could still do that!

  15. Ohh, I know about the others and some are stranger to me. I love Netflix, I can watch over and over as much as I want to. Now what I wish is more time streaming. Lol.

  16. Netflix is a lifesaver when we are travelling. We download a bunch of stuff and then even with no wifi, we are all set. Keeps us busy and happy even during delays.

  17. I wish we still have a netflix, it really make a big difference when traveling with kids. I should look into this again.

  18. I JUST finished watching Mudbound. Granted the attraction was Mary J Blige I was so surprised to see it’s a possible Oscar nom. Netflix is full of gems and I’m having so much fun discovering them.

  19. Hooray for Netflix! It seriously is a lifesaver sometimes. I watch it when I need a mental break from school and I’m so excited to hear about the download feature for my trip this week.
